EU Space ISAC

APRIL 24, 2024

Osmium is proud to announce that it is one of the twelve Founding Members of the EU-Space ISAC, which has been in the works for some months already and publicly presented today, when the first official board meeting took place in Paris.

Stemming from the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence and facilitated by the European Commission and the EU Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), the EU Space ISAC is a collaborative initiative for EU space sector companies to foster exchanges, raise awareness and share best practices to strengthen their security. This cooperation, within the private ecosystem but also with public entities, aims at improving the overall resilience of the EU space sector and thus better prevent, tackle and mitigate security-related challenges, including cybersecurity.

The 1st Board Meeting was co-chaired by the European Commission and EUSPA, joined by 12 Founding Members representing both large industrial groups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from across the European Union. During their two-year term, Founding Members, who include Airbus Defence & Space, Cyberinflight, GMV, Infodas, Leonardo, OHB, Osmium, Priamos, Promethee, Satlantis, Thales Alenia Space, and Tecnobit, will be setting up the EU Space ISAC, integrating new Members and Public partners, and organizing the first activities.

This initiative, which had been announced in the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence, aims at strengthening the security and resilience of the EU space sector. This is essential as critical services for the economy and for citizens as well as public policies increasingly rely upon space.

The EU space ISAC is a network of EU companies from the space sector that are willing to develop their expertise to better prevent, tackle and mitigate security challenges. It will have a particular focus on how to enhance cybersecurity.
While the Commission and EUSPA will act as facilitators, Members shall play an active role in this network and be supportive of a collective approach. On a voluntary basis, they will be able to share information in a trusted environment – for example feedback on a specific incident or best practices, guidance for security protocols, risk assessments. They can also develop tools, produce position papers and exchange with Public Partners, who have a key advisory role to play in the EU space ISAC.
On top of the Founding Participants, ten other Members have already been selected and will be contacted to participate in these activities. The call for applying to the EU space ISAC remains open with two cut off dates each year.
The Commission and EUSPA hope that new Members and Public partners will join from across the EU. The initiative shall be of particular interest to SMEs and start-ups that often have limited resources and would benefit from the initiative.
